Early harvest superior extra virgin olive oil from Zakynthos
Early harvest superior extra virgin olive oil from Zakynthos
NIOÉLIA is an early harvest extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) and high phenolic from the Koroneiki variety of Zakynthos. Its name comes from the fusion of the words "NIO" and "ÉLIA". "NIO", in the local dialect of Zakynthos means oil from the new harvest, while "ÉLIA" refers to the olive tree.
This early harvest olive oil will sublimate you with its characteristic bitterness in the throat due to the high concentration of polyphenols ( antioxidants).
When the olives are still green and have a normal shape, they are picked manually in order to protect them against microlesions which can significantly affect the quality. The pressing of the olives and the cold extraction of the oil the same day, is another key factor which contributes to its superior quality. Thus, this small family from Zante in the Ionian Islands in Greece produces an olive oil with a high concentration of polyphenols and very low acidity (<0.3%), which holds the therapeutic qualification (with health claim EU 432 /2012).
This particular olive oil is harvested on the eastern slopes of Mount "Vrachiona", which remain sunny throughout the day, 220 m above sea level in the area of Agia Marina, Zakynthos. Its color is an intense bright green, as unripe olives have a high chlorophyll content. Its taste is fruity and bitter, with an orange aroma (which characterizes many Zakynthos olive oils due to the simultaneous flowering of oranges).
